Band History

VOXNEON was the brainchild of original drummer Shaun who, in early 2019, felt the time was right for a cover/tribute band focused on the classic synth pop genre that emerged in 1979/1980. Scouring BandMix in March/April of 2019, he found Nick and John and brought them together to discuss his idea. The chemistry was immediate and they worked tirelessly over the next 5 months bulding the foundations of VOXNEON. With a solid body of material assembled, they needed a vocalist. Around this time, by coincidence, Scott had reached out to Nick (also via BandMix) unaware of what had been developing. Excited by what he heard, Scott joined the team and rehearsals progressed into the New Year. Unfortunately, 2020 didn't go to plan with COVID closures frustrating proceedings. VOXNEON took the opportunity to set up their own rehearsal space and developed a full-blown 'show' with synchronised lighting and video. A private launch party at the Emu Plains facility in December, and a handful of gigs in early 2021 (thanks to The Bridge Hotel) were performed before COVID closed everything down again. Things finally got underway properly in March 2022 and the band went from strength to strength culminating in a string of sell out shows throughout 2023. Towards the end of that year the band were approached by Tony Grace and The Harbour Agency and began insterstate touring in early 2024. As the project grew it became apparent that it was getting difficult to manage with 3 of the band holding down demanding day jobs. In early 2025 Shaun stepped back from playing to focus on management and Tony Le Rhodes was drafted in to fill the space with a move away from acoustic drums to a full electronic kit triggered by original (and iconic) Simmons pads. The demands of touring combined with busy day jobs required vocal support as Scott wasn't always available for gigs. Experienced singer Jon Baker (of Rock Box) joined the team to help out and at the end of the year stepped in to the position full time as Scott stepped down to focus on his career and other avenues. With 90+ shows under their belt, the band is now looking forward to taking the journey into 2026 and developing the show further.

Shaun:
Manager, Original Drummer, Video & Stage Lighting
Shaun started drumming in High School where he played with Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence (who later formed INXS). At University, Shaun played in new wave band 'Judgement of Paris' but abandoned his drum kit to embrace the emerging New Romantic club scene. In love with the genre, he built a successful alternative fashion business. Forty years later, Shaun embarked on his project to recreate the iconic sounds of the era. The result, VOXNEON, became one of the fastest growing touring cover bands in Australia. Shaun now focuses on management, social media, video production & marketing.
Scott:
Lead Vocals, Guitar, Synth, Marketing & Promo
Original lead singer Scott realised his passion for live music while living in Dallas, Texas in the '90’s where he performed at open mic nights. On returning to Sydney, he played with various acoustic and rock outfits “…I played with a lot of bands but when I heard VOXNEON were putting electronic synths at the center of everything, I had to be a part of it.” After providing an amazing demo the band knew they had found their front man & Scott joined the ranks. “VOXNEON delivers on its promise of authentic 80’s synth rock. Audiences love it, there’s a powerful energy at our shows that everyone connects with. I love being immersed in it.”
